You've been there - we all have! Your coworkers are all going out for an impromptu drink after work, which often turn into a few drinks, or you're stuck working later than you thought and you have a date to get to. Use these tips and tricks to give yourself a quick, easy make-up look that will take you from the office to the restaurant or bar.
Day To Night Make-up Necessities
If you stock your purse or a desk drawer with these items, you'll always be prepared to go from office to evening out. These are the basic essentials for every girl, but you can also include what works best for your skin, such as loose powder, an eyelash curler, blush or concealer.
- A highlighter: something shimmery in a cream, liquid or powder form to use on the areas of your face you'd like to highlight (browbone, top of the cheekbones, inside corner of the eye). Think of a flesh tone like soft pink or beige with a hint of silver if your skin is fair or medium-toned and gold if you have olive-toned or darker skin.
- Lip gloss: something with more oomph than your daytime lip colour. Think shine, lustre and/or colour.
- Eyeliner: a dark eyeshadow powder or pencil - think grey, navy, green, burgundy or black. Even if you wear liner during the day, you'll want to intensify and smudge it for evening.
Changing Your Look From Day To Night
Daytime make-up should look soft and natural and as the light fades, you want your face to glow in its place! Dim lighting and candlelight prevails in restaurant and bars, and as flattering as that can be, why not make yourself stand out?
Whatever your natural assets are, a softly highlighted face and emphasized eyes and lips are flattering on everyone. Here's what you can do to achieve it!
- Touch up issues such as shine or melted make-up. You don't want to completely redo your make-up, so go easy on the powder and concealer. Just because it's getting darker outside doesn't mean you should pile on the product!
- Once your face looks refreshed, apply your highlighter to the following three places and blend, blend, blend! Use a small eyeshadow brush if you're using a powder highlighter, but you can use your fingers otherwise. The heat of your fingers will help to distribute the product and melt it into your skin for a natural finish:
- Browbone. Apply just below your eyebrow. Blend it down onto your temple and onto your cheekbone and across to below the start of your eyebrow.
- Cheekbone. Apply to the tops of your cheekbones and blend up onto your browbone and down onto your cheek if you have excess. Try to limit how much you use as you want a highlight, not an overall shine to your skin.
- Inside corner of the eye. With your pinky finger, gently dab a small amount of your highlighter onto the corner of your eye. Blend it out. **This step may be done with a small eyeshadow brushe.
- To add some sexy oomph to your eyes, line your upper eye with your dark pencil or eyeshadow powder. Lining with eyeshadow powder will have a softer effect than a pencil eyeliner and it can easily be built up if necessary, or applied wet for a more dramatic look, but if you're most comfortable with a pencil, it works just as well to emphasize your eyes (and can be used on the inside of your eyes for a dramatic effect).
- Blend the eyeliner into your lashline and up onto your lid slightly for an effortlessly smoky sexy look. You may also wish to blend the dark shade up into your crease for even more definition and/or along your bottom lashline for an extra smoky eye.
- Apply your lip gloss. Remember to choose a neutral shade if you want to really play up your eyes and a brighter shade if you want to play up your lips (keeping your eyes as the secondary focus).
- You're done and ready to have a great evening out!
It's easy to boost your day look into one that makes you feel sexy enough for an evening out. Just a few products and a quick few steps and you're set!
