Customize you summer foundation formula by combining your favorite foundation with a moisturizer, and create the perfect summer glow that shows off your beautiful skin.

Thoughts of summer beauty bring about vibrant images of radiant skin with highlights of a healthy glow bouncing off each cheekbone. It seems as though every advertisement showcases a model with flawless skin, with hardly a trace of foundation to be found, and every summer trend report declares that this year, like every year, it's all about beautiful skin.

But the heat of summer means makeup can melt fast, leaving the average foundation-wearing woman with a mess dripping down her face by the middle of the day. By combining your foundation and moisturizer to blend your own tinted moisturizer foundation formula, you create a foundation makeup that is lightweight, hydrating, and sheer enough for wear throughout the summer.

The Benefits of Tinted Moisturizers

Tinted moisturizers are an excellent choice for summer beauty. Not only lightweight in look and feel, the moisturizing properties of the combination allow the makeup to be better absorbed by the skin. This helps ensure that there are no visible makeup lines and that the foundation appears natural. Additionally, tinted moisturizers can be reapplied throughout the day as necessary, without appearing cakey or heavy on the skin.

What You Need

  • A liquid or cream foundation for your skin tone
  • A light to medium weight moisturizer, preferrably with sunscreen (SPF)
  • Small airtight container (optional)

Instructions

  • In the small container, or the palm of your hand, pour or squeeze out the amount of moisturizer you would normally use to hydrate your face.
  • Add a few drops of foundation to the container or your palm, mixing with a cotton swab or your finger as you go.
  • Once mixed, apply a small amount to your cheek and lightly massage into the skin. The correct color will virutally disappear into your skin.

Continue to mix until the color you feel best matches your skin tone develops. Remember, add more moisturizer to make the foundation blend more sheer and more foundation to make the blend more opaque.

This same method can be used if you've ever made the mistake of buying a foundation that is too dark for your skin tone. The moisturizer will lighten the pigment slightly, making it more suitable for you. Additionally, if your skin darkens throughout the summer, you can add just a touch of the too-dark shade to deepen the overall appearance of your custom blend.

When you have finished applying your foundation, you may wish to apply a light dusting of loose powder to set your makeup. Then, simply dust the cheeks with a touch of blush or bronzer, and complete your look. You'll be ready for the beach in no time flat.
