Inspired by the runway, here are three themes to inspire your fall/winter beauty looks and ideas on how to achieve them!

Fall/Winter fashion and beauty trends are the most exciting and anticipated of the year. If you look at the September issues of fashion magazines like Vogue, InStyle and Elle, you'll notice they're roughly twice the size of an April issue and three times the size of a July issue! Fall/Winter fashion means sweaters, boots, tights, layers, hats, gloves and scarves (twice the accessories as in Spring/Summer) and fall/winter beauty means bolder colours, smoky eyes and the chance to wear more make-up than during the sweaty, humid days of summer – no wonder it's such an exciting time!

These three make-up trends are inspired by MAC.

Make-Up Trend #1 - Colour

Unexpected colours, boldness, experimentation – this look demonstrates a love of make-up. Don't be shy; be inspired. There are no rules when it comes to colour, but think rich and bold tones: greens, blues and purples.

Be inspired by autum leaves and autumn sunsets for your eyes – golds, burgundies, deep greens and purples. Go deep with matte texture or think frost and use a hint of sparkle. With your lips, it's all about paint-like splashes of colour. Think lipstick in reds, burgundies and rich pinks. Or go the other way and think of faint blushes of minimalist matte colour, frost-like white-orange, white-pink and white-coral.

Make-Up Trend #2 - Stain

This look is all about a wash of colour, rich but sheer, hinted-at rather than caked-on. Think wine – those deep, rich tones of purple, red and burgundy. This is about that bold lip look, without looking heavy or being difficult to maintain. A stain in a red or burgundy looks youthful, innocent, provocative.

Think sheer. Stain your lips with a bold-toned lipstick and blot it down to nearly nothing so the natural texture and a hint of natural colour shows through. Leave the rest of your face bare or nearly bare for full drama. Play with differing colours of lip pencil and lipstick or a richly toned gloss for a dramatic 3D effect (ie. red pencil with a burgundy lipstick). Think barely-there cheeks – a natural flush that comes from being out in the cool wind. Layer your look with a cheekstain and then a soft similarly-toned powder on top.

Make-Up Trend #3 - Architecture

Think subtle drama and enhancing the bones of your face. Highlight and contour, dramatizing your eyebrows and cheekbones and being coy and innocent about your natural beauty. Think sexy, innocent and naked, a seemingly bare face that's bewitchingly beautiful. The first step is perfect skin: clean, even-toned and naturally glowing. Highlight the places on your face you want to stand out – your brow bone right beneath your brow, the tops of your cheekbones, the inside corner of your eye.

A sweep of neutral shadow just below your lower lashes and in the crease of your eye will emphasize oh-so-subtly. Sweep a soft pink or peach across the apples of your cheeks. Bump up the natural colour of your lips with a soft pink lipstick or tinted balm. Brows are to be full, voluptuous and dramatic – comb them up, fill them in and set them with a brow gel.

So there you have it! Three simple ideas with which to create your own fall/winter look. Toss aside your super shiny lip glosses and bronzer and embrace the dramatic and glamourous fall/winter face!
