Using a sunless tanner is the only safe way to get that perfect, healthy looking tan. Here are some tips on how to apply them.
Sunless tanners have improved a lot since they were first introduced in the 1950s, but they still must be applied correctly to give the best result. Without proper preparation and application, sunless tanners can streak, provide an uneven tan and stain clothes. Applied properly, they create a rich, even tan. Prepare before Applying the Sunless TannerPart of having a successful sunless tanning session is preparing in advance—and reading these instructions is a good first step. The best time to do this is in the evening to give it a chance to try before going out in the sun or being active. The next is to gather everything that is needed—something to keep the hair out of the way, tight-fitting clothes that will not stain or create tan lines in undesirable places (unless going for the all-over tan), gloves (recommended, but not required) and a way to apply product to hard-to-reach areas (a paint roller, brush, or husband all work well). Next, take a shower. Thoroughly clean and exfoliate everywhere the sunless tanner will be applied, then dry off completely. If applying the sunless tanner in the bathroom, let all the steam out to avoid sweating and streaking. Put on any clothes that will be worn and put the hair up. Use a moisturizer on the face, neck, elbows, knees and feet. Sunless Tanner Application TipsWhen applying sunless tanner:
Note: having a sunless tan does not protect the skin from the sun. Sunscreen or sunblock is still needed to protect against harmful ultraviolet rays. Sunless tanners are a great way to trade in pasty white skin for a healthy glow, but only if they are applied correctly.
